One Cobble at a Time

Ice and Snow at the Tayler House

Sandra Tayler's Journal

A cobble by itself is just a small stone, but when many of them lay together they create a path . My life is made up of many discrete parts. I have to find ways to fit them all into place so that I can continue to journey where I desire to go. This journal records some of the cobbles that create my path.

Nine inches of snow means that the next week is going to be all about icicles.

For today, the snow is all about sledding. Gleek and Link have been out sliding down the hill for the past hour.

  • Back in the late 50s, the icicles would form and be over 2 inches through, at the top and maybe 10 or 12 inches long. As an eleven year old, I'd break them off and lick for a while.

Thanks for making me remember the snow and the cold and the fun of winters in Maple Valley (20+ miles south of Seattle)!

  • Uhm, has your gutter come loose from your roof?
    • I didn't think how odd that would look if you're unfamiliar with the house. There is a jog in the roof line over our back door and so the gutter extends freely for an extra three feet so that it won't run water onto the deck. Works great for rain, not so hot for ice. We have to go out and knock off the big icicles or else the weight will cause the gutter to bend/break/tear off.
